According to the recently published B Corp rankings, a sustainable cosmetics brand, Beauty Kitchen scored highest in the UK’s beauty industry, becoming the 5th highest scoring B Corp overall in the UK.

Certified B Corporations, also known as B Corps, meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose.

Commenting on the ranking news, Co-Founder of Beauty Kitchen, Jo Chidley, said:

“This is a big moment for us and the result of our team’s dedication to purposeful and sustainable business throughout the past four years, particularly during 2020.

The important thing is that we keep focusing on how we can improve and continue to grow a sustainable community.”

Jo Chidley, Co-Founder of Beauty Kitchen

Chidley started the business with her husband in 2014.

She used her skills as a chemist, botanist and sustainability expert to grow the company from offering six products to produce over 120 products stocked in well-known high street stores.

After becoming a B Corporation in 2017, Beauty Kitchen has constantly improved its business model to adopt sustainability initiatives, including gaining vegan, animal cruelty-free, and microplastic free certifications.

Considering that 95% of beauty packaging is thrown away after one use, they introduced a groundbreaking sustainability program that promotes a ‘Return, Refill, Repeat’ approach to product use.

This means that users are encouraged to send back empty bottles, tins, and the company manages to wash and reuse the packaging.

“Purpose, positive impact and sustainability leadership will always be our top focus.

We are honoured to receive this recognition from B Corp, especially as they, like us, put people and planet before profit.

The next step will be to make sure our #ReuseRevolution continues to grow and invite more brands to join our ‘Return, Refill, Repeat’ programme,” says Chidley about plans for the future.

In particular, Beauty Kitchen has scored highly in the B Corp ranking thanks to a range of new initiatives and a sustainability-focused business model.

B Corps are accelerating a global culture shift to redefine success in business and build a more inclusive and sustainable economy.

By harnessing the power of business, they use profits and growth as a means to a greater end: positive impact for their employees, communities, and the environment.
