Social Innovation Tournament with supports is live

The Social Innovation Tournament is managed by the European Investment Bank Insitute, and it is organised in a different country every year to reward and sponsor European entrepreneurs whose primary purpose is to generate a social, ethical or environmental impact.
All projects compete for the General Category and Special Category 1st and 2nd Prizes of EUR 50 000 and EUR 20 000 respectively.
In 2020, the Special Category Prizes will go to projects focusing on the environment (with special emphasis on biodiversity and ecosystem conservation).
Projects are typically related to combating unemployment, marginalisation of disadvantaged communities and promoting access to education in a wide range of fields, from education and health care to the natural or urban environment, using new technologies, new systems, and new processes.
A selection committee will announce the finalists who can attend to a mentoring Bootcamp to receive the necessary guidance to finalise their proposals. At the final event on 8 October 2020, in Lisbon, Portugal, all the finalists have to present and defend their project to a jury of social innovation specialists.
The Tournament runs in two rounds: key evaluation criteria for the 1st round selection include the relative significance of the problem targeted, the sustainability of the innovation proposed and the estimated social and/or environmental impact of the proposed solution.
The second round assessment will take account of the likelihood for implementation based on the scope of the proposal’s societal vision and its overall cost-effectiveness as well as the team’s commitment, strategy and implementation capacity.
Proposals can be innovative ideas which could be implemented within a reasonable time frame and have substantial benefits for society, or already implemented innovative solutions with tangible outcomes in terms of societal impact which could serve as best practices and replicable models.
